Sorry if this is old news but I was looking at using the free Google Sketchup 7 to create some models. I tried the B3D exporter but could not get it to work. Then I found this handy article:

Now I have Vue Infinite 7 and this does indeed work. I also have UU3D and it works with that as well. Here is what you do:

Export from Sketchup as a KMZ model.
Rename the KMZ file to a ZIP file and extract.
Then use any program that can deal with Collada files to import the DAE file in the models folder.

It is old news to me, but does not hurt to repeat it. Even more so if it is now true that we can use Google SketchUp (non pro) for commercial use?

The old "Only non commercial use" clause seems to be gone?

Google SketchUp is made available to you for personal or commercial use, and includes support via our SketchUp Help Center. You can also find answers, ask questions, and share your expertise on the Google SketchUp Help Group.

That is a good question. The pro version isn't too cost prohibitive and saves a few steps. It's a fine piece of software to boot.

Thanks for the hint - may be very useful the sooner or later.
